Pitfalls and Politics: Research on Health Care in Southwest China

Scott Bamber

This article addresses some of the practical aspects of undertaking qualitative research and the problems that can arise in the course of fieldwork. It is argued that by its very nature qualitative research often produces special difficulties for the researcher. Some of these are illustrated by examples taken from experiences conducting qualitative research on health and medicine in Yunnan Province in Southwest China.
